Association for Decentralised Energy

The Association for Decentralised Energy advocates for decentralised energy solutions and helps shape the debate and influence for decentralised energy policy.

Association of Meter Operators

The Association of Meter Operators is a Trade Association for Meter Operators.

A Meter Operator (MO) is a Company that contracts with either a Customer or a Supplier to install and maintain Meters, for measuring the flow of energy, in either the Electricity or Gas Markets. The MO may also provide the Meters if required to do so. Many MOs also provide additional added value services to their contracts. MOs work with other organisations, such as Data Collectors, to ensure that Suppliers are able to accurately bill Customers for energy used.

BM Reports

The BMRA (Balancing Mechanism Reporting Agent) collects and publishes information regarding the electricity system in Great Britain. BM and System related information is sourced from the System Operator (National Grid), and Registration Information from the Central Registration Agent. BMRA performs and publishes indicative calculations for each settlement period.

C&C Group Holdings Ltd

Elexon awarded C&C Group the Technical Assurance Contract to fulfil the role of Technical Assurance Agent.

The Combined Heat and Power Club

The CHP Club is an initiative under the Carbon Trust’s Networks programme, aimed at assisting users and potential users in getting the maximum benefits from CHP. It provides members with a combination of information, exchange of experience and advice facilities on CHP and related topics.

The Club membership is aimed at energy managers, site engineers, decision makers and those UK organisations which already operate CHP schemes or those who think CHP may be appropriate for them. It is also open to trade associations of sectors that have CHP potential. The Club is an open, pressure-free forum where ideas and experiences are freely exchanged.

Consumer Focus

Consumer Focus is the statutory organisation to campaign for all gas and electricity consumers in England, Wales, Scotland, and, for postal services, Northern Ireland.

Created through the merger of three consumer organisations – energywatch, Postwatch and the National Consumer Council (including the Welsh and Scottish Consumer Councils), their approach allows for more joined-up consumer advocacy, with a single organisation speaking with a powerful voice and able to more readily bring cross-sector expertise to issues of concern.

Consumer Focus works closely with the regulator, Ofgem, to ensure that company performance issues are monitored and where appropriate, the evidence is provided to trigger investigations and/or enforcement action.

Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy

Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is responsible for business; industrial strategy; science, research and innovation; energy and clean growth; climate change. It replaced the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in July 2016.

Energy Networks Association

The Energy Networks Association (ENA) is funded by the UK gas and electricity transmission and distribution licence holders. Its aim is to promote and enable the UK to have the safest, most reliable, efficient and sustainable energy networks in the world.

Elexon deals directly with ENA as they have been appointed as the Teleswitch Agent to provide Teleswitch Monitoring in connection with the Balancing and Settlement Code.

Energy UK

Energy UK is the trade association for the GB energy industry with a membership of over 100 suppliers, generators, and stakeholders with a business interest in the production and supply of electricity and gas for domestic and business consumers. Our membership covers over 90% of both UK power generation and the energy supply market for UK homes.

Environment Agency

The Environment Agency is the leading public body for protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales. Its job is to make sure that air, land and water are looked after by everyone in today’s society, so that tomorrow’s generations inherit a cleaner, healthier world.

EPEX SPOT

For Elexon, EPEX SPOT is the Market Index Data Provider as required.

EPEX SPOT facilitates the development of the liberalised integrated energy markets in North West Europe by providing an efficient, transparent and secure electronic trading environment for gas and power. APX Group is an expert in the integration of markets across borders and commodities.

Gemserv

Gemserv assists in the formation of multi-party agreements in order that organisations with different interests operating in a common industry can represent themselves to government, consumers and other public bodies.

KPMG

KPMG is the current BSC Auditor and Qualification Service Provider.

KPMG publishes the annual BSC Assurance opinion and plays a key role in the market entry of SVA Parties and Party Agents going through Qualification. KPMG member firms also act as professional advisors to many other electricity companies around the world.

MDS

MDS (Morrison’s Data Services)  is the current Profile Administrator Agent.

MDS is an independent data collector who provides services to many customers in a variety of industry sectors. To accompany this they are fully accredited as a data collector, data aggregator and meter operator for both the half hourly and non-half hourly electricity markets.

MRASCo

The Master Registration Agreement (MRA), along with its associated documentation, sets out the inter-operational arrangements that support the processes for the registration of a change of electricity supplier in the UK retail market.

MRASCo is a joint-venture company established and maintained by all MRA parties under the MRA. Its role is to administer the MRA and undertake any development activities required by the UK electricity retail processes under the scope of the Agreement.

National Energy Action

NEA develops and promotes energy efficiency services to tackle the heating and insulation problems of low-income households.

Working in partnership with central and local government; with fuel utilities, housing providers and health services; and with consumer organisations, NEA aims to eradicate fuel poverty and campaigns for greater investment in energy efficiency to help those who are poor or vulnerable.

National Grid

National Grid was established on 31 March 1990 as the owner and operator of the high voltage transmission system in England and Wales. National Grid is a wholly owned subsidiary of National Grid Transco.

National Grid is the owner and operator of the high voltage 275kV and 400kV transmission system in Great Britain and provides services to the following customers:

• Generators
• Interconnected parties
• Distributors – the Regional Electricity Companies, who transfer power from the transmission system across their local distribution systems to the domestic customer
• Suppliers – who trade electricity and sell it to their customers
• Directly-connected customers – who are industrial consumers of electricity whose premises, by reason of the size and technical characteristics of the location of their electricity demand, are directly connected to the transmission system.

It is National Grid’s responsibility to ensure that, in Great Britain, the level of electricity generation is adequate to meet the demand for electricity.

Ofgem

Ofgem (the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets) is the regulator for the gas and electricity industry, which was formed in June 1999. It protects the interests of customers, ensuring they get genuine value and choice, by promoting effective competition in both gas and electricity markets and regulating monopolies.

Standard Licence Conditions

Any company over a certain size and which hasn’t been granted an exemption, is obliged to have a licence to generate or supply electricity if it wishes to participate in either of those roles in the electricity industry. The Standard Licence Conditions are those common to all such licences although there are some other licence conditions which only apply to a particular party.

Renewable Energy Association

The Renewable Energy Association (REA) was established in 2001 to represent British renewable energy producers and promote the use of sustainable energy in the UK. The REA’s main objective is to secure the best legislative and regulatory framework for expanding renewable energy production in the UK.
